The Parish Council has been sent the following information by one of the organisers:
On 20th May in Hyde Park, London, an attempt will be made on a Guinness World Record in aid of MIND and in support of Heads Together - a campaign spearheaded by The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry,. We aim to have over 200 people run 5km linked together. They will be representing the parishes along the River Thames - one for every mile. Needless to say, the pace will be slow and the distance is low - just over 3miles. So participants don't have to be super-fit, just keen on helping to raise money for a good cause, and enjoying the fame and camaraderie . http://www.robertcourts.co.uk/downloads/newsletter-210317.pdf, With local elections taking place in just a few weeks, voters in Oxfordshire are being urged to make sure they are registered to vote and are able to take part on polling day, Thursday 4 May.
The call for voters to sign up comes as the Electoral Commission launches a national voter registration campaign to encourage as many people as possible to register ahead of elections taking place this year across the country. West Oxfordshire District Council is now also reminding voters that they need to register by the deadline of Thursday 13 April otherwise they won’t be able to take part in the Oxfordshire County Council elections. Keith Butler, Electoral Registration Officer for West Oxfordshire, said: “Time is running out to make sure you can take part in elections this May, so I’d encourage everyone in Oxfordshire to take action now if they’re not already registered to vote. It’s quick and easy to register, but after the deadline of 13 April, it will be too late. “Poll cards are currently being sent to all those already registered to vote. If you don’t receive one it could mean you’re not on the electoral roll and, are therefore, not able to vote at the May election. If you’ve not received your poll card by 1 April, please give us a call on 01993 861410 to check you’re registered.” Emma Hartley, Head of Campaigns at the Electoral Commission said: “Our research shows that young people, students and recent home movers are particularly less likely to be registered to vote. So if you have moved house recently, then make sure you’re registered correctly. If you’re not registered, you won’t be able to have your say on issues that directly affect your day-to-day life in Oxfordshire.” To register to vote, visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote before Thursday 13 April. Thames Valley Police is delighted to announce that the Thames Valley Alert App has been launched and is free to download now.
The app, which is available on iPhone and Android, can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play and allows you to receive instant notifications to your phone on the latest policing alerts in your area (please note that you must enable push notifications to receive these). The app can use GPS data to send you targeted messages according to your current geographical location and messaging preferences, sending you instant notifications to your mobile phone about specific information, warnings and advice relevant to that location. The app offers a number of other features, including allowing you to quickly locate your closest police station, and also provides a feed of the latest Thames Valley-wide news on Twitter, so you’ll never miss those important Force-wide updates and breaking news. This facility is available on the app even if you do not have a Twitter account. Please note that you do not have to download the app to get alerts; you can still choose to receive alerts via email, text or voicemail. To download the app, visit the Apple store or Google Play and search ‘Thames Valley Alert’. |
